Green Drinks – A Great Way to Get Your Greens
The natural health researchers at Institute for Vibrant Living (IVL) have investigated the ways to supplement the diet with healthy and neccesary green sources. Here is one of their reports:
Green health drinks are a relative newcomer to the health food scene, but they are becoming increasingly popular. Although raw vegetables are the very best way to get your 5 portions per day, a green drink is infinitely better than no veggies at all.
Green drinks are popular as they are an easy way to get a balanced number of servings of fruits and vegetables. They are portable, store well and last longer than fresh vegetables, especially for singles. They also include added fiber, calcium and vitamins.
So can there be any downsides to regularly taking green drinks? Opponents to green health drinks cite that the drinks can taste “grassy’, they can be thick and sludgy to drink, they are expensive and they are not as filling as the real thing. Certainly it is advisable to read the labels to see what and how much you are actually getting as they vary from product to product. Used in moderation they can be a convenient supplement to servings of fresh fruit and vegetables.
Make your Own Green Drinks
Green drinks can be made simply, cheaply and easily by blending a range of raw vegetables. Most homes have a blender and fruit smoothies are a popular start to the day. However, they are based on fruit which can increase insulin levels with sugar spikes from the natural fructose, but they are certainly better than drinking soda.
Celery, fennel and cucumber make a pleasant blend to start off with. The intense dark green leafy vegetables have the most health benefits so experiment with romaine or escarole lettuce, spinach, kale and cabbage. Incidentally, cabbage is a high source of Vitamin U, which is excellent for those with stomach ulcers. Flavor the juice with parsley, cilantro, a few slices of apple or some seedless grapes. Variety is the key. You can also add fish oil, flaxseed oil or cod liver oil. Always use pure filtered water to get the right consistency.
This is a great way for those who are not keen on platefuls of green vegetables to have a regular intake of vegetables, especially as they are processed raw and have not lost any of their mineral and vitamin content through cooking. Moderate use of carrots and beets is advised as they do have some sugar content.
As well as being quick to prepare and easy to drink, juicing vegetables can be even more beneficial as the nutrients are more easily digested and absorbed than chewing on raw vegetables. Even children will enjoy a juiced green drink rather than eating the required vegetables at the dinner table.
The one drawback is that vegetable juices cannot be prepared in bulk and stored for later. Vegetable juices are one of the most perishable foods and should be consumed immediately after processing. If necessary, it can be refrigerated for up to 24 hours in a container with an airtight seal. Fill it to the top to minimize air as this oxidizes the vegetable juice (like apples browning) and bring it to room temperature for 30 minutes before drinking.
The Easy Answer to Green Drinks
One tried and tested formula called “All Day Energy Greens” is very easy to prepare. One tablespoon of this concentrated supplement packs in herbs, herbal extracts, vitamins, minerals, grass juices, antioxidants and bioflavonoids equivalent to your daily five portions of fruits and vegetables. It may effectively boost energy levels and eliminate toxins and excess mucus from the body without causing bloating.
When your body absorbs these healthy supplements on a daily basis, the results are that you not only feel better, but look better too with glowing skin and shiny hair.
Advocates of All Day Energy Greens claim it has given them a noticeably more youthful feeling, boosts energy, helps maintain the ideal weight, controls healthy blood sugar levels, assists in regular bowel movement and reduces cravings. There is simply no down-side to giving this excellent product a try as it even comes with a money-back guarantee.
