Help with Insurance questions?
Hi, I am 22 and just got the red “P” in July in NSW. I want to buy a car driving to uni. I dont have much money, I just want to buy a car below AUD$5K, is it possible to include all the costs within this budget AUD$5K.
I have asked some of my friends, they said if I buy a cheap car, I can just buy the “Third Party Property Damage Insurance – Car ” and “CTP Greenslip Insurance – NSW” to save money without buying the expensive “Comprehensive Car Insurance”, is it true?
And I am very confuse on the process of buying an used car like the term of Green slip, pink slip, stamp duty, Registration fees, e-Safety Check
If I want to buy a car, I need to pay the below costs, if I have miss, can anyone tell me?
1. the price of the used car
2. Third Party Property Damage Insurance – Car
3. CTP Greenslip Insurance – NSW
4. Registration fees from RTA
5. stamp duty
6. e-Safety Check (for checking the car)
Thank you very much

Typically all the government requires is that you have liability insurance, or some other proof that in the event of an accident, your legal obligations to the other people in the accident will be met.
The other types of insurance are for such things as
* you have an accident and your car is totalled … who pays to replace the car? Well you do, if you did not get insurance against that.
* you have an accident, are seriously injured, end up in hospital, with tens of thousands of dollars medical bill, lose the use of an arm or leg, miss out on weeks of paychecks … Does anyone reimburse you for that? Not if you did not get insurance against that.
* your car is stolen, never recovered … do you get any insurance payment on that? ,,, Not if you were not insured against that possibility
* there is a bad storm, and where your car was parked is now under water, or a tree falls on it … do you get any insurance money? … Not if you were not insured against that risk, unless you can prove who owned the property the tree came from
As for your other questions, in every city I have ever lived in, there is an infrastructure known as
* The Daily Newspaper
this infrastructure is for literate people who are interested in the world around them … you can buy it for less money than you pay for a cup of coffee or a sandwich … there is a section in there that has advertisements from people trying to sell all sorts of things, and it includes prices for used cars in your community
I suggest you familiarize yourself with your daily newspaper
There is also a government agency that issues paperwork associated with the owning and operating of cars. They have offices all over creation. I suggest you go visit & ask for the specific prices, so you know all the regulations you need to comply with, the pricing, so you can plan your budget.
Different geographies have different regulations
* car is safe (mechanically)
* emissions of car do not violate pollution regulations
* car has proper license tags
* car and owner meet insurance standards
* you have places where you may legally park it
* there are registration stickers associated with places you want to take it, to prove all the appropriate taxes have been paid
